Explain why calcium metal after reacting with water starts floating on its surface. Write the chemical equation for the reaction.

Calcium reacts with water to evolve hydrogen gas. Bubbles of the gas stick on the surface the metal. As a result, it starts floating on the surface of water :
`Ca(s) + 2H_(2)O(l) rarr Ca(OH)_(2)(s) + H_(2)(g)`
