Ionic solids conduct electricity in the molten state and not in the solid state. Explain.

The ionic compounds conduct electricity due to the movement of ions. Since the ions have hardly any mobility in the solid state, these are not conducting. However, in the molten state, the ions can move freely and these compounds are therefore, conducting.
