Alloy is a homogeneous mixture of two or more metals/non-metals. For example, bronze is an alloy of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn). Steel is an alloy of iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni) and carbon (C )
Purpose of making alloys : Alloys are prepared to
(i) increase hardness of metals (ii) increase tensile strength of metals (iii) increase resistance of metals towards corrosion (iv) modify chemical activity of metals (v) increase resistance of metals towards corrosion.
