Two ores `A` and `B` were taken. On heating, ore `A` gives `CO_(2)` whereas, ore `B` gives `SO_(2)`. What steps will you take to convert them into metals ?

Since the ore `A` of the metal gives `CO_(2)` upon heating, it is some metal carbonate `(MCO_(3))`. It can be converted to the metallic form as follows :
Calcination : `MCO_(3) (s) overset("heat")rarr MO(s) + CO_(2)(g)`
Smelting : `MO(s) + underset(("coke"))(C(s)) overset("heat")rarr M(s) + CO(g)`
Since the ore `Y` of the metal gives `SO_(2)` upon heating, it can be some metal sulphide `(MS)`. It can be converted to the metallic form as follows :
Roasting : `2MS(s) + 3O_(2)(g) rarr 2MO(s) + 2SO_(2)(g)`
Reduction : `MO(s) + underset(("coke"))(C(s)) rarr M(s) + CO(g)`
