Hershey and Chase (1952) conducted their experiment on `T_2` phage which attacks the bacterium E. coli.
The phage particles were prepared by using radioisotopes of `.^35S "and ".^32P`
Conclusion from the Experment : (i) The bacteria which were infected with viruses that had radioactive DNA were radioactive.
(ii) In the phage particles with radioactive protein, the bacterial pellets have almost nil, radioactivity indicating that protein have failed to migrate into bacterial all. So, it wag concluded that DNA must have entered the bacteria and that DNA is the genetic material.
