What is it that prevents a child to suffer from a disease he/she is vaccinated against? Give one reason.

In vaccination, a prepartion of antigenic proteins of pathogen or inactivated/weakened pathogen are introduced in the body. The antibodies produced against these antigens neutralise the microbes in future infections and produce memory-B and T cells as well.
