Describe the initiation process of transcription in Bacteria.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) This process is called Transcription in Prokaryotes. In prokaryotes, the structural genes are polycistronic and continuous.
(ii) There is single DNA - dependent RNA polymerase that catalyses transcription of all the three type of RNA (mRNA, rRNA).
(iii) RNA Polymerase bind to the promoter and initiates the process alongwith certain termination factors.
(iv) The enzyme facilitates the opening of the DNA helix and elongation continues
(v) The nascent RNA separates called termination of transcription and is facilitated by certain termination factors
(vi) Translation can start much before the mRNA is fully transcribed, i.e. transcription and transcription can be coupled.
