If p^(2)+2pq+q^(2)=1. Explain this algeb...

If `p^(2)+2pq+q^(2)=1`. Explain this algebraic equation on the basis of Hardy Weinberg's principle.

Text Solution

`p^(2)+2pq+q^(2)=1`. This is a binomial expansion of (p+q)2. When frequency measuring differs from excepted values, the difference (direction) indicates the extent of evolutionary change. Disturbance in genes equilibrium, or Hardy-Weinberg's equilibrium, i.e., change of frequency of alleles in a population would then he interpreted as resulting in evolution.

(a) How does the Hardy- Weinberg's expression (p^(2) + 2pq + q^(2) = 1) explain that genetic equilibrium is maintained in a population ? (b ) List any two factors that can disturb the genetic equilibrium.

With the help of an algebraic equation, how did Hardy-Weinberg explain that in a given population the frequency of occurrence of alleles of a gene is supposed to remain the same through generations ?

Assertion: hardy-weinberg principle explains the variations occuring in populatin and species over a number of generations. Reason: Hardy-Weinberg principle is applicable only when genetic drift occurs.
