A few residents in your locality, for business gains, have established small-scale idustrial/commercial activities such as pathological labs and fabric dyeing centres without obtaining 'No objection certificates' from municipal authorities. Would you support these activities ? Give any three reasons in support of your answer.

Explanation

We will support theses activities because :
(i) Eflluents from the pathology labs are likely to contain many unwanted pathogenic microbes. Disposal of those into water without proper treatment may cause outbreak of serous diseases such as dysentery, typhoid, jaundice, cholera etc.
(ii) Dyeing centers are a source of variety of organic compounds and heavy metals such as lead, copper, mercury and cadmium which undergo Biomagnification in the aquatic food chain.
(iii) Effluents from small scale industries such as the dying centers can lead to accelerated eutrophication of the water bodies. The prime pollutants being nitrats and phosphates act as plant nutrients which increase algal growth causing unsightly scum, unpleasant odours and decrease in dissolved oxygen which causes depletion of aquatic life.
