Morgan carried out several dihybrid cros...

Morgan carried out several dihybrid crosses in Drosophila and found `F_(2)`-rations deviated very significantly from the expected Mendelian ratio. Explain his findings with the help of and example.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Morgan hybridised yellow bodied, white eyed female to brown to brown bodied red eyed males. He then intercrossed the `F_(1)` progeny and noticed that the `F_(2)` ratio deviated from the mendel dihybrid ratio of `9 : 3 : 3 : 1`.
(ii) Morgan observed that during his study the proportion of parental gene combinations was much higher than non-parental type. since Morgan knew that his genes of study were located on the X-chromosome, he concluded that physical association or linkage of genes was responsible for this observation.
(iii) Morgan further observed that the formation of non parental types was related to the strength of linkage. The Recombination frequency was much more for genes less tightly linked than got the genes more tightly linked.

When Morgan conduced dihybrid cross on Drosophila like Mendel did with pea plants, the F_(2) ratios deviated significantly from than of Mendel's F_(2) ratio. Write the explanation Morgan and his group gave to the observations they obtained from their experimant.

Read the following statements. (i) Morgan carried out several monohybrid crosses in Drosophila to study genes that were sex-linked. (ii) Morgan attributed that proportion of parental gene combination is less than the non-parental type due to the physical association. Term recombination was coined by Morgon to describe the generation of non-parental gene combinations. Alfred Strutevent used the frequency of linkage between gene pairs on the same chromosome and fine genetic map. Select how many are incorrect statement(s).

In a dihybrid cross carried by T.H. Morgan in Drosophila the F_(2) ratio deviated from that of Mendel's dihybrid F_(2) ratio. Give a reason.

Morgan hybridised yellow - bodied, white - eyed females to brown - bodued, red - eyed males and intercrossed their F_(1) progeny. He observed that (a) F_(2) ratio was deviated very significantly from the 9 : 3 : 3 : 1 ratio (b) Both genes did not segregate independently of each other (c) Recombinant types are not obtained in F_(2) generation (d) Both genes segergate in independently of each other .
