Explain the relevance of "Totipotency" and "Somaclones" in raising healthy banana plants from virus infected banana plants.

Text Solution

Totipotency is the ability of a living cell to express all of its genes to regenerate a whole new individual plant.
Somaclones are the plants obtained through tissue culture and are genetically identical to the parent plant. From virus infected bana plant tissues are excised, disinfected and tissue cultured to raise virus free genetically identical banana plants.
