Explain the application of rDNA technology to produce insulin.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Insulin consists of two polypeptide chains. Chain A and chain B. The genes for thesf chains are isolated.
(ii) Then using restriction enzymes the genes for these chains and vector DNA are left a specific point
(iii) These genes are then inserted into the vector DNA plasmid and joined using the ligas, enzyme.
(iv) Subsequently then recombinant DNA replicates inside the E.Coli plasmid.
(v) The chains A and Bare then extracted from the E.Coli plasmid.
(vi) These chains are then joined by the disulphide bonds to produce the human insulin.
