(b) Draw of seminiferous tubules-
Functions : Sertoli cell `to` These cells provide nutrition to the germ cells.
Spermatogonia They undergo meiotic cell division to produce sperms.
Leydig cell (interstitial cell) `to`These cells synthesise and secrete the male hormones called androgens which maintain male sex characteristics.
(b) The process of formation of spermatozoa (sperms) from dipoid spermatogonia is called spermatogenesis.
It is initiated at the age of puberty by the gonadotropin releasing hormone, GnRH sec,eted by the hypothalamus.
The increased levels of GnRH stimulate the anterior pituitary which then secretes the FSH an.d LH. FSH stimulates Sertoli cells to secrete some factors which help in spermiogenesis. LH acts on the Leydig cells and ca us.es the secretion of testosterone from the testes.
