The ultimate finer branches of trachea in insects are known as tracheoles. It ends in the cells of tissues. The walls of tracheoles are freely permeable to water. The ultimate branches of bronchi that lack cartilaginous rings are known as bronchioles. Bronchioles are lined with simple ciliated columnar epithelium without mucous cells.
