Write the different components of a lac ...

Write the different components of a lac - operon in E . Coli Explain its expression while in an 'open' state.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The lac - operon conists one regulatory gene (i) promoter gene , operator gene and three structural gene (z,y,a).
This operon model was providedby the Jacob and Monad in 1961.
The i-gene codes for the repressor of the lac- operon.
The z- gene codes for transacetylase . Hence, all three genes products in lac- operon are required for metabolism. When inducer is presnet , such as lactose or all olactose , it binds to repressor and this allowes transcription of gene - open state.
