Some organisms suspend their metabolic activities to survive in unfavourable conditions. Explain with the help of any four examples.

Examples-(i) In bacteria, fungi and lower plants various kind of thick walled spore are formed which help them to survive unfavourable conditions.
(ii) In higher plants, seeds and some other vegetative forms reproductive propagules serve as a means to tide over period of stress, besides helping in seed dispersal.
(iii) Bears going into hibernation during winter.
(iv) Snails and fishes go into aestivation to avoid summer related heat problems and dessication.
(v) Many zooplankton are known to enter diapause, a stage of suspended development.
