What precautions should be taken while handling beryllium compounds and why?

Contact of Be compounds with the skin causes dermatities, and inhaling dust or smoke of Be-compounds causes a disease called berylliosis which is rather similar to silicosis. Therefore, beryllium compounds should be handled With care.
