The reaction between marble and dilute `H_2SO_4` is not used to prepare `CO_2` gas-why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Marble `(CaCO_3)` reacts with dilute `H_2SO_4` to form insoluble `CaSO_4` which deposits on the surface of marble and prevents further reaction. So, evolution of `CO_2` ceases after sometime. Thus the reaction between marble and dilute `H_2SO_4` is not used to prepare `CO_2` gas.
