Explain why is sodium less reactive than potassium.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Due to its small size, ionisation enthalpy of sodium `(496 kJ mol^(-1))` is greater than potassium `(496 kJ mol^(-1))` and standard electrode potential value of potassium (-2.925V) is more negative than that of sodium (-2.714V) . Thus, sodium is less reactive than potassium.
