Although the abundance of Na and K in the earth's| crust are comparable, sodium is nearly 30 times more abundant than potassium in sea water-why?

Text Solution

These metals were leached from the aluminosilicate rocks by weathering. The potassium salts having large anions are less soluble than the sodium salts because of higher lattice energy Moreover, potassium is preferentially absorbed by the plants For this reasons, sodium is more abundant than potassium in sea water.
