Discuss the roles of `Na_2O_2KO_2 and LiOH` in the purification of air.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Sodium peroxide `(Na_2O_2)` is used to purify the airin submarines and confined spaces as it removes carbon dioxide `(CO_2)` and produces `O_2`.
`2Na_2 O_2 + 2CO_2 to 2Na_2 CO_3 + O_2`
Potassium superoxide `(KO_2)` is used to purify air in space capsules, submarines and breathing masks because it can absorb carbon dioxide `(CO_2)` thereby removing it and produces `O_2`
`4KNO_2+2CO_2 to 2K_2CO_3 + 3O_2`
Lithium hydroxide (LiOH) is used for the absorption of carbon dioxide `(CO_2)` in space capsules and submarines.
`2LiOH + CO_2 to Li_2CO_3 + H_2O`
