Detemine the equivalent mass of Fe (2)O(...

Detemine the equivalent mass of `Fe _(2)O_(4)` in the given reaction : `Fe_(2)O_(4)+KmnO_(4)toFe_(2)O_(3)+MnO_(2)`(Assume that the molecular mass of `Fe_(3)O_(4)=M`]

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`overset(8//3)(Fe_(3))O_(4)to overset(+3)(Fe)_(2)O_(3)`In this reaction ,the increase in oxidation number for each Fe-atom=`3-(8)/(3)=(1)/(3)`
So the total increase in oxdation number for 2 Fe -atoms` =3xx(1)/(3)=1` units
Therefore, the equivalnet mass Of `Fe_(3)O_(4)`
`("Molecular mass "of Fe_(3)O_(4))/("Increase in oxidation number")=(M)/(1)=M`
