MnO(4)reacts with A^(x+) to from AO(3)^(...

`MnO_(4)`reacts with `A^(x+)` to from `AO_(3)^(-),Mn^(2+)and O_(2)`.One mole of `MnO_(4)^(-)` oxidises 1.25 mole of `A^(x+)`to `AO_(3)^(-)`, what is the value of x?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`MnO_(4)^(-)+A^(x+)toAO_(3)^(-)Mn^(2+)O_(2)`
The change in oxidation number of Mn=5 unit `(+7to+2)`and that of A=(5-x) unit `[+xto+5in Ao_(3)^(-)]`
1 mole pf `MnO_(4)^(-)` reacts completely with 1.25 mole of `A^(x+)`
Therefore `1xx5=10.5(5-x)`
Solcing for x gives x=+1
Thus the value of x=+1
