A body is released from height of 30 m vertically downwards. The speed of the body at which potential is twice that of kinetic energy is
(Acceleration due to gravity , `g = 10 ms^(-2)`)

A

`20 sqrt(20 )ms^(-1)`

B

`10 sqrt(2) ms^(-1)`

C

`10ms^(-1)`

D

`20 ms^(-1)`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
B

Total energy at heigh 30 m = mg (30)= 30 mg
`:. TE = PE + KE rArr 30 mg = PE +KE . . . (i)`
From Eq. (i),
`rArr 30 mg = 2KE +KE`
`rArr KE = 10mg rArr(1)/(2) mv^(2) = 10 mg`
Hence, speed of the body , `v = sqrt(200) = 10 sqrt(2) ms^(-1)`

A body is projected up a smooth inclined plane of length 20sqrt(2)m from point A as shown in the figure. The top of B of the inclined plane is connected to a well of diameter 40 m. If the body just manages to cross the well then the velocity of projection is (Acceleration due to gravity, g=10ms^(-2) )

A body of mass 2 kg thrown vertically from the ground with a velocity of 8 ms^(-1) reaches a maximum height of 3m. The work done by the air resistance is (acceleration due to gravity =10 ms^(-2) )

A body of mass M kg is on the .top point of a smooth hemisphere of radius 5 m. It is released to slide down the surface of the hemisphere. It leaves the surface when velocity is 5 ms^-1 , At this instant the angle made by the radius vector of the body with the vertical is (acceleration due to gravity = 10 ms^-2 )
