Assertion (A) [SiF(6)]^(2) is formed but...

Assertion (A) `[SiF_(6)]^(2)` is formed but `[SiCl_(6)]^(2-)` is not
Reason (R ) Electronegativity (EN) of F is higher than EN of Cl

A

Both A and R are correct and R is the correct explanation of A

B

Both A and R are correct but R is not the correct explanation of A

C

A is correct but R is not correct

D

A is not correct but R is correct

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

`SiF_(6)^(2-)` is formed but `SiCl_(6)^(2-)` is not because Cl has greater size than F. Therefore, larger size of anions cannot form complex with silicon. Electronegativity of F is higher than Cl but cannot explain about Assertion.
Thus, Assertion and Reason both are correct but Reason (R) is not the correct explanation of (A).
