`X_(2)` is used in the refining of Ti metal by van Arkel method `Y_(2)` does not liberate `O_(2)` from water and does not form Hy and Hoy with water `x_(2)` and `y_(2)` are respectively

A

`i_(2) ,Ci_(2)`

B

`C1_(2) ,I_(2)`

C

`I_(2),I_(2)`

D

`CI_(2),CI_(2)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Given `X_(2)` is used for refining of Ti- metal using van Arkel method. Also `Y_(2)` does not give `o_(2)` from water and does not form HY and HOY with water `X_(2)` and `Y_(2)` respectively
`I_(2)` is used for refining Ti metal using van Arkel method. Also when `I_(2)` reacts with `H_(2)O` . it does not give `O_(2)` and does not form HI or HO1 . therefore both `X_(2)` and `Y_(2)` are `I_(2)`. The reactions are given below.
`(i) underset(impure)(Ti) + 2I_(2) to Til_(4) overset(Delta )(to) underset(pure) (Ti ) + 2I_(2)`
Thus option ( c) is the correct answer.
