What is X in the following reaction ?
`CO + 2H_(2) overset(x ) (to) CH_(3) OH`

A

`623 k // 300 atm `

B

`KMnO_(4) //H^(Theta)`

C

`Zn//Delta `

The correct Answer is:
D

The given reaction is for the industrial preparation methanol from a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen . In the reaction the gaseous mixture is subjected to 200 atmosphere and then passed over heated catalyst mixture of ZnO and `Cr_(2) O_(3)` kept at 573 -673 K . This reaction results the formation of methanol vopours which are then condensed to liquid state.
`CO + 2H_(2) underset(573 - 673 k ) underset(200- 300 "atm") overset(ZnO-Cr_(2) O_(3) x (to) CH_(3) OH`
