In which Ge shows oxidation state + 2 and + 4 but +4 for Ge is more prominent while, due to sheilding of s-electrons by intervening d and f-electrons as the number of d and f-electrons increases down the group from Ge to Pb the inert pair effect becomes more prominent so + 4 oxidation state is becomes less stable.
So, the + 2 oxidation state of `PbX_(2)` are more stable.
