A

Swarts reaction

B

Gatterman reaction

C

Sandmeyer reaction

D

Stephen reaction

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

The reaction,
`Aroverset(+)(N)Cl^(-) + Cu + HCl rarr ArCl + N_(2) + CuCl` is known as Gattermann reaction where diazonium salt reacts with copper metal in present of HCl to give chlorobenzene. This reaction uses `ArSN_(1)` mechanism where diazonium group is a good leaving group that departs leading to phenyl carbocation formation which is very unstable and then the `Nu^(Θ), Cl` attacks the phenyl carbocation giving chlorobenzene.
