The upward motion corresponds to a decreasing velocity represented by a curve OA of decreasing slop on the x-t diagram. On the other hand the downward motion after attaining the highest point corresponds to an increasing velocity represented by the curve AB on the same diagram.
The curve OAB is a parabola.
