A rocket loses `(1)/(4)`th of its mass in one second, during its upward motion. The speed of ejection of gas is 4000 m`cdot s^(-1)`. Find the acceleration gained.

Verified by Experts

In the case, `(dm)/(m) = (1)/(40), dt `= 1s,
u = 4000 m`cdot s^(-1)`
Hence, acceleration, a = `(u)/(m) (dm)/(dt) = (u)/(dt)(dm)/(m)`
`= 4000 xx (1)/(40) = 1000"m"cdot s^(-2)`.
