A cycle with the rider has a total mass ...

A cycle with the rider has a total mass of 80 kg, it rolls down 60 m on a plane of inclination `30^@` . What is the total work done by gravity on the cycle ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Force acting vertically downwards,
`F=80 kg -wt =80xx9.8 N`
Displacement , s=60 m
Angle between force and displacement , `theta ` [Fig.1.8] =`60^@`

`therefore W = Fs cos theta `
=`(80xx9.8)xx60xx cos 60^@`
`=80 xx9.8 xx60xx0.5 = 23520 J`.
