A fire brigade pump draws water from a reservoir 2m below the ground. It hurls the stream of water at 50 kg per second . This water stream strikes the top of a 8 m high wall, at a speed of `5 m *s^(-1)`. Determine the power of the pump.

Water is raised through a height of 2+8 =10 m Total work done = total energy gained by the water = potential energy + kinetic energy
`=mgh+1/2 mv^2`
The pump provides this energy.
`therefore` Work done by pump in one second
`=50xx9.8xx10+1/2 xx50xx5^2=50 (98+12.5)= 5525 J`
`therefore` Power of the pump = 5525 W =5.525 kW.
