The sun and the earth both exert a gravitational force of attraction on any object on the earth's surface. The two gravitational forces are in opposite directions during noon and in the same direction at midnight. Will an object weight more at midnight ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The earth is a planet in the solar system. We know that there is no effect of the gravitational pull of the earth on any object in an artificial satellite, i.e., the object becomes weightless . Similarly, any object on the surface of the earth is weightless with respect to the sun, i.e., there is no effect of the sun.s gravitational force on the object . As a result, the weight of an object (which is equal to the gravitational pull of the earth experienced by the body ) remains the same both at noon and at midnight.
