Escape velocity from a planet or satellite `v_e=sqrt(2gR)` where g= acceleration due to gravity on the surface of that planet or satellite and R =radius of that planet or satellite . Value of g and R for the earth are much greater than that for the moon. Hence, the escape velocity from the earth.s surface is greater.
