What would be the weight of a person, if he goes to a height equal to radius of earth from its surface ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Weight at the surface of the earth, `W=mg=(GMm)/(R^2)`
Weight at height h,
`W^.=mg^.=(GMm)/((R+h)^2)=(GMm)/((R+R)^2)[ because h=R]`
So, `(W^.)/(W)=(R^2)/(2R^2)=1/4 or, W^. =W/4`
