Density of air at STP =1.293 g.L^-1 and ...

Density of air at STP `=1.293 g.L^-1` and that of mercury `=13.6 g.cm^-3`. Find the value of the gas constant for 1 g of air.

IF k is a constant of 1 g of air, then `k=(pV)/T`
According to the problem,1.293 g of air occupies a volume of `1000 cm^3`
`therefore` 1 g of air occupies a volume of `1000/1.293 cm^3`
Here, `p=76 times 13.6 times 981 dyn.cm^-1, T=273 K`
`therefore k=76 times 13.6 times 981 times 1000/1.293 times 1/273`
`=0.287 times 10^7 erg.g^-1.K^-1`
