40 g of water at `12^(@)C` is kept in a container. When 50 g of water at `80^(@)C` is addd to it, the final temperature becomes `46^(@)C`. Find the thermal capacity of the container.

Let the water equivalent of the container be W.
`therefore " Heat received by water and the container at "12^(@)C`
`=Wxx1xx(46-12)+40xx1xx(46-12)`
`=(W+40)xx"34 cal"`
Heat given out by water at `80^(@)C`
`=50xx1xx(80-46)=50xx"34 cal"`
`therefore" "(W+40)xx34=50xx34" or, "W=10g`
`therefore" Thermal capacity of the container "=10cal.^(@)C^(-1)`.
