The volume and pressure of two moles of an ideal gas and V and p respectively Another 1mol ideal gas having volume 2V also exerts the same pressure p. Molecular mass of the second gas is 16 times that of the first gas. Compare the rms velocities of the two gases.

IF the temperature of the first gas is `T_1`, then `pV=2RT_1` and the temperature of the second gas is `T_2`, then P.
then `p.2V=RT_2 or,pV=1/2 RT_2`
According to the question
`2RT_1=1/2 RT_2 or , T_1/T_2=1/4`
rms speed `c=sqrt((3RT)/M)`
`thereforec_1/c_2=sqrt(T_1/T_2.M_2/M_1)=sqrt(1/4times16/1)=2/1`
or,`c_1=2c_2`
