Time period of a spring of negligible ma...

Time period of a spring of negligible mass, with a mass M hanging from it, is T. The time period chnages to `(5T)/3` on attaching an additional mass m to it. Find out the value of `m/M`.

From the formula `T=2pisqrt(m/k)`, we get, `T/(T.)=sqrt(m/(m.))`
For the given cases,
`T/((5T)/3)=sqrt(M/(M+m))or,3/5=sqrt(M/(M+m))`
or, `(M+m)/M=25/9or,1+m/M=25/9`
`therefore" "m/M=25/9-1=16/9`.

The time period of vibration of a massless elastic spring, with mass M attached to its end, increases n times when an additional mass m is attached. What is the ratio of m to M?

A rod of negligible mass carries a 5 kg mass at a distance of 10 cm from its fulcrum. Another mass m is kept 5 cm away on the other side such that the rod remains horizontal. Find the value of m and the reaction at the fulcrum.

The time period of a body of mass M executing SHM, connected to a spring, is 2 s. If the mass of the body is increased by 2 kg, its time period increases by 1 s. Considering that Hooke's law is obeyed, calculate the initial mass M.
