The equations of two progressive waves...

The equations of two progressive waves superposing on a string are `y_(1)= A sin [k(x - ct)] and y_(2) = A sin [k (x + ct)]` . What is the distance between two consecutive nodes ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
Here, ` y_(1) or y_(2) = A sin [ k (x = ct)]`
The general form of the two waves, ` y = A " sin" (2pi)/(lambda) (x = Vt)`
So, `k = (2pi)/(lambda) or, lambda = (2pi)/(k)`
`:.` The distance between two consecutive nodes ` = (lambda)/(2) = (pi)/(k)*`
