two sources, each emitting a sound of wavelength ` lambda ` , are kept at a fixed distance . How many number of beats will be heard by a listener moving a velocity u along the line joining the two sources ?

If n is the frequency and v is the velocity of sound apparent frequency to a listener in motion for a stationary source
` n. = (v + u)/(v) xxn`
The velocities of the listener for the two sources in question are -u and + u .
` So, ` n_(1). = (v-u)/(v) xx n and n_(2). = (v + u)/(v) xxn `
` therefore ` Number of beats per second
` = n_(2). = n_(1). = (2u)/(v) xx n = (2u)/((v)/(n)) = (2u)/(lambda)` .
