In the adjoining figure DE||BE and D divides AB in the ratio 2:3 find.
(i) `(AE)/(EC)` (ii) `(AE)/(AC)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Since DE||BC, hence by Thale's theorem.
` (AD)/(DB) = (AE)/(EC)`
Also. ` (AD)/(DB)=2/3`
Therefore, from (1) and (2) , ` (AD)/(DB) = (AE)/(EC)=2/3`
(ii) `(AE)/(AC) = (AE)/(AE + EC)= (AE//EC)/(AE//EC+EC//EC)= (2/3)/(2/3+1)= ((2/3)/(5/3))= 2/5`
