An iron nail is placed in copper sulphate solution taken in the beaker. Observe it for some time ? Find the changes that takes place and why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When iron nail is dipped in copper sulphate solution, the colour of copper sulphate tuns from bule to light green and reddish brown deposits is formed on iron nail. This is because iron is more reactive than copper, so it displaces Cu from `CuSO_4`. Solution. The displacement reaction can be written as `CuSO_4 +Fe to Fe SO_4+Cu`
