Pressure of an ideal gas in container is...

Pressure of an ideal gas in container is independent of shape of the container explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Pressure exerted by a gas is due to continuous bombardment of gaseous molecules with the walls of the container. During each collision, certain momentum is transferred to the walls of the container and this transfer is independent of its shapes because area A and time interval `Delta t` do not appear in the final formula. Hence, pressure of an ideal gas in a container is independent of the shape of the container.
