Why does the colour of copper sulphate solution change when an iron nail is dipped in it ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When an iron nail is dipped in the copper sulphate solution then iron displaces copper from the copper sulphate because it is more reactive than copper. Hence the colour of the copper sulphate solution changes to green. The reaction involved here is:
`Fe(s)+CuSO_4(aq)toFeSO_4(aq)+Cu(s)`
