Explain haloform reaction.

Aldehydes and ketones having atleast one methly group linked to the carbonyl carbon atom are oxidised by sodium hypohalite to the sodium salt of corresponding carboxylic acid. Methyl group is converted into halofom. This reaction is called haloform reaction. Example:
