(a) Calculate the spin only magnetic mom...

(a) Calculate the spin only magnetic moment of `Ti^(3+)`ion (Atomic number of Ti = 22).
(b) `Cu^(2+) ` salt solutions are coloured : given reason.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) p = 7n (n + 2)
`l = yJl(l + 2)=y//3`(b) `Cu^(2+)` ions contain one unpaired electron in its d-subshell and can undergo d-d transition. Therefore it is coloured.
In `Zn_(2+) `, there is no unpaired electrons, hence it does not undergo d-d transition. Hence it is colourless.
