Why are Mn compound more stable than Fe ...

Why are Mn compound more stable than Fe towards oxidation to their + 3 state?

Text Solution

`Mn^(2+)toMn^(3)+e`
`3d(Stabl e)3d^(4)`
`Fe^(2+)toFe^(3)+e`
`3d    3d^(2)(Stabl e)`
`Mn^(2+)` has stable electronic configuration  ie ` 3d^(1)` were as `Fe^(2)` has` 3d^(6)` configuration. After loosing! One electron it changes to `Fe^(3+)` which has stable `3d^(5)` electronic configuration.
