Describe electrophoresis with the help of a diagram.

The movement of electrically charged colloidal particles towards either cathode or anode, under the influence of an electric field is called electrophoresis.
For example : Arsenious sulphide sol is taken in a U-shaped tube, two platinum electrodes are dipped in it and an electric field is applied using a battery. The colloidal particles being negative, move to the positive electrode.
